Commissioning of Clayfield College’s seventh Principal, Dr. Andrew Cousins
The extended Clayfield family came together on Thursday 27 February 2020 for the commissioning of the College’s seventh Principal, Dr. Andrew Cousins. The service paid tribute to the College’s strong sense of connectedness, with representatives from all parts of the school community playing a role in Dr. Cousins’ official welcome.
Within his address Dr. Cousins said, “It is an honour to have been commissioned as Clayfield’s seventh Principal. I accept the role with the significance it warrants, the dignity it demands and the possibilities it promises.”
“There is no greater honour or joy than to be entrusted with, and be part of, a child’s most important life journey - education. The education of young minds is such a thrilling, enriching and enlivening journey.”

Special guests and dignitaries who joined the celebration included Tim Nicholls MP, David McLachlan - Councillor for Hamilton Ward, Kav Samaraweera - representing the Hon Trevor Evans MP, Rev David Baker - Moderator of the Uniting Church Queensland Synod, Rev Heather den Houting, General Secretary of the Uniting Church Queensland, and representatives from the PMSA including current Chair, Mr Greg Adsett and incoming Chair, Mr Morgan Parker. Former colleagues of Dr. Cousins, his peers from other Independent Schools throughout Australia, as well as past Principals of Clayfield College were also in attendance.
Dr. Cousins PhD, BMus, BSc, PGradDipEd, AMusA, GAICD was previously Deputy Principal of Presbyterian Ladies’ College (PLC), a large, well-regarded independent girls’ school with boarding in Perth. Prior to that role, Dr. Cousins held the position of Dean of Teaching and Learning and Dean of Middle Years Learning at Somerset College on the Gold Coast.
Dr. Cousins has developed an outstanding reputation as an educator, leader and colleague in high-performing independent schools. His strong spiritual and community values, passion for music and the sciences, together with his enthusiasm for great educational outcomes for students align closely to the values and culture of Clayfield College.
