From the Principal
As the term draws to a close, it is time to recharge as we take a well-earned pause after an action-packed term. The upcoming break will allow many of us to slow down and allow us to re-energize our drive and motivation.
During the week, the College hosted the inaugural Clayfield College Futures Expo. At the Expo, 15 external providers were displayed at this event. This included – local universities, TAFE, Australian Defence Force, University residential colleges and our new VET provider for 2022, Axial Training. Over 300 people registered for the event, with many of our students bringing along students from other local schools to seek advice. In addition to supporting students in Years 11 and 12 to make decisions about their post-schooling pathways, this event provided an excellent opportunity for students in Years 9 and 10 to make informed choices about their subject selection which will occur at the start of Term 3. and also the opportunity for students to consider what shape their future learning will take. Thank you to all the staff involved in attending and organizing this event, particularly Mrs. Meegan McLoughlin Head of Careers and Pathways.
During the week at the Independent School Queensland Forum: Celebrating Change, University of Queensland’s (UQ) Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Deborah Terry AO shared with delegates that by 2040 Australia’s future workers will invest 33% more time than today’s employees reskilling and upskilling over their lifetime. Professor Terry went on to share that this increase will occur “at the same time global challenges and the impact of technology, artificial intelligence and robotics put fundamental human skills centre stage. For universities to produce “career-ready graduates who are able to engage in life-long learning, we need to carefully balance deep disciplinary knowledge that allows students to grow, with the broader transferable skills that will allow them to branch out even further.” This important connection between disciplinary knowledge and transferable skills is a key aspect of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, which is being implemented in our Primary School.
Looking towards 2022 and beyond
We are thrilled by PMSA’s recent commitment to invest in the renewal of our College campus! This renewal will form part of our 2022 to 2027 Strategic Vision that we look forward to sharing with you all later in the year.
With 2022 in our sights, we have been busy planning for the year ahead. We are excited to be introducing additional streams within our Primary School next year, and currently have a waitlist for our Pre-Prep class.
To assist us with our planning and resourcing for 2022, we would be grateful if you could advise us as soon as possible, if you do not intend for your child to continue at the College next year. Please provide notice in writing to our Head of Primary and Deputy Principal, Mrs Audrey Fellowes via afellowes@clayfield.qld.edu.au, as well as the Enrolments Team via enrol@clayfield.qld.edu.au. A reminder that at least a Term’s notice is required as per our Enrolment Procedures and Business Regulations.
*Please note that no action is required if your child is continuing next year.
The partnerships between the College and families are integral in creating a positive school experience for your son or daughter. I encourage you to please reach out to our staff at any time to answer any questions you may have.
For those families leaving Clayfield at the end of this term, we wish you all the very best for your future education endeavour. I also take this opportunity to thank and wish Angela Bedville, Maria McGinty and Stephanie Gilmore all the best as they head off to the next chapter in their career. I hope you have a safe and restful break, returning at the start of Term Three refreshed and motivated to embrace the Clayfield experience.
