I am thrilled to announce that as a College community, we have received two Excellence Awards as part of the 2021 Australian Education Awards. These annual accolades are recognised as the leading independent awards for the Pre-Prep to Year 12 education sector and celebrate the outstanding achievements and transformative work of the country’s top performing schools, leaders and teachers.
Please join me in congratulating:
Mrs Lakshmi Mohan, Head of STEM Excellence Awardee - Secondary School Teacher of the Year Award (Non-Government)
Clayfield College Boarding House Excellence Awardee - Boarding School of the Year Award.
It is a significant achievement to be shortlisted as finalists, but even more so in a year which saw the most nominations ever submitted. Our Excellence Awardees have already been acknowledged in The Educator, with the overall winners to be announced at an awards gala in August.
Learn more about why our Excellence Awardees have been selected from more than 800 nominations nation-wide, as well as what it means to them and their teams to be acknowledged here.
Our Clayfield family is so proud of Mrs Mohan and our Boarding House team and wish them all the best with the final stage of the process.

Mothers’ Morning Thank you so very much to all who attended our Mothers’ Morning last Wednesday, 5 May. Despite the rain, there were so many smiles brightening the day. Classrooms were a hive of activity as special guests were pampered in Pre-Prep, decorating pots in Prep, completing puzzles in Year 1, creating with playdough in Year 2, writing persuasive texts in Year 3, drafting poems in Year 4, constructing narratives in Year 5 and playing Kahoot in Year 6! We were then entertained by the wonderful musicians from Year 4. Thank you to Mrs Ann Slade for preparing such a delightful performance showcasing individual and group talent. What a joy it was to share such a lovely morning with our mothers/grandmothers/special someone.
We hope all our Clayfield College mothers have a very special day on Sunday.
Cross Country A thoroughly enjoyable time was shared by all at the Interhouse Cross Country Carnival in Week 2. All children who participated impressed as they persevered with the challenging course. Team spirit ran high as all runners were cheered across the finish line. Thank you to Mrs Peta Richardson for organising such a successful carnival. Congratulations to Ashburn House for taking home the trophy.
National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) In Week 4 students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will participate in the annual NAPLAN assessment. The sessions for our Primary students are as follows:
Tuesday 11 - May Writing and Conventions of Language Wednesday 12 May - Reading Thursday 13 May - Numeracy
NAPLAN tests are constructed to give students an opportunity to demonstrate skills they have learnt over time through the curriculum, and NAPLAN test days should be treated as just another routine event on the College calendar. Please support your child/ren by reassuring them NAPLAN is just one part of their school program and advise them to simply do their best on the day.
To help prepare your child/ren, please ensure they have a good night’s sleep, a suitable breakfast and arrive at the College on time.
Scholastic Book Fair Clayfield College is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair from Monday, 17 May, until Thursday, 20 May, in the Lower LRC. The theme of this year’s event is To the Book Fair and Beyond! The goal of the Book Fair is to increase literacy by encouraging families to come together to promote reading, books and lifelong learning.
We would greatly appreciate your help in making our Book Fair a success. During the event, your child/ren will come home with a ‘wish list’ of two items from the Book Fair. The ‘wish list’ can be used to make online purchases. If you choose this option, please return the ‘wish list’ to school with the record of your payment. Alternatively, you are more than welcome to visit the Book Fair with your child/ren before school from 7:50am to 8:15am on the dates listed above. You will be able to purchase directly from the Book Fair via an electronic funds transfer.
Please consider purchasing an item from the Book Fair. Your contribution will make a positive difference towards improving literacy in our College. The Book Fair also encourages children to be excited about reading and learning.
External Student Achievements It is always wonderful to share in the achievements of our students. May we please request parents/carers include Clayfield College Student Services StudentServices@clayfield.qld.edu.au in your email to the College regarding these successes. It is a pleasure to be able to communicate these achievements with our College community.
