Clayfield College is proud to unveil THE EDGE, our newest and most dynamic learning environment, which will be open to students at the start of Term 3. Purposefully designed as a hub for Entrepreneurship, Design, Growth and Engineering, THE EDGE represents a bold step forward in Clayfield’s vision for future-focused learning.
Principal of Clayfield College, Dr Andrew Cousins said the landmark project is a tangible expression of the College’s growth and commitment to innovation in teaching and learning.
“THE EDGE is a state-of-the-art facility that is so much more than a building – it is a space that empowers students to explore and innovate through hands-on, real-world learning experiences. It signals a bold, new era of dynamic learning at Clayfield.”
A Milestone in Clayfield’s Journey
THE EDGE marks a significant milestone in the history of Clayfield College. While there have been a number of revitalisation and refurbishment projects in recent years, this is the first new building to open on campus since 2009. Its arrival marks our growth as a thriving co-educational school and reinforces our commitment to designing and delivering dynamic student-centred learning experiences which foster a pathway to academic success.
Within its walls, students will discover six flexible learning spaces, including a purpose-built Fabrication Workshop. This high-tech facility is equipped with everything from 3D printers and laser cutters to bandsaws, heat presses, and traditional metalworking and woodworking tools. These resources will provide a launchpad for creativity and enable students to bring their ideas to life.
Building on a Strong Foundation
THE EDGE also heralds the beginning of a larger transformation. Thanks to the generosity of our community during Giving Day 2025, the Clayfield College Foundation will fund a major redevelopment of the current Japanese Courtyard. This space will evolve into the new Foundation Courtyard – the heart of an expanded Secondary School precinct.
A Community Effort
This project has been made possible through the collaborative efforts of many. The College extends its sincere thanks to Mr Wayne Knapp, Presbyterian and Methodist Schools Association (PMSA) Board Chair, as well as members of the PMSA Board; Mr Alan Swanson, PMSA Chief Executive Officer; the College Advisory Council; the P&F Association; Clayfield College Foundation and the Old Collegians’ Association.
We also recognise the work of the Project Controls Group, including Mrs Elizabeth Hughes, PMSA Director of Assets and Property; Ms Leesa Taylor, Director of Corporate Services; Mrs Trudi Woodhead, Operations Manager; Mr Steve Wintraaken, Project Manager from Blades Project Services; Hutchinson Builders and our ICT Team.
A special thanks goes to our Teaching and Learning Team – in particular, Mrs Lakshmi Mohan, Mr Jacques Stemmet, Mrs Chantal Carter, Mr Brett Steeples and Mrs Ianthe Campbell – for bringing the educational vision of THE EDGE to life.
Official Opening
It is fitting that the official opening of THE EDGE will be celebrated during STEM Week in mid-August. In the meantime, our flythrough video showcases what awaits the students on their return.
THE EDGE is more than a building; it signifies a bold new era of learning at Clayfield College.
