Academic Curriculum
The Senior School curriculum is structured to meet the needs of students aiming for Tertiary Entrance as well as those wishing to pursue other post-school pathways. Special Needs students and Gifted and Talented students are also catered for.
Subjects offered in Year 10 are designed to be both terminating courses, representing for some students, their final year of study in a particular subject, as well as foundation courses for subjects undertaken in Years 11 and 12.
Students in Years 11 and 12 can choose from subjects leading to the award of an Overall Position (OP) or choose a vocational oriented course which may lead to a Selection Rank. All courses offered in Years 11 and 12 may contribute to the award of the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). Vocational Studies which are offered to Year 11 and 12 students in collaboration with external providers such as TAFE Colleges or the other Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), are chosen by students who either want to pursue a non-OP pathway or who wish to explore a non-academic subject while fulfilling an OP program. These vary from studies in Hospitality and Tourism to Childcare and Fashion Design.
Gifted and Talented students are provided with extension opportunities in each subject and encouraged to enter competitions and external events such as Days of Excellence. In Year 12, Music Extension is offered for advanced Music students. Also selected students are able to undertake first year tertiary subjects.
A detailed description of each subject offered in Senior Schooling (Years 10–12) can be found in the Senior Schooling Academic Handbook.
