Academic Curriculum
The curriculum in the Middle Schooling Years is progressively moving to the Australian Curriculum. Students study English, Mathematics, Science and History whilst all other subjects are based on the Essential Learnings, published by the Queensland Studies Authority, across the nationally recognised Key Learning Areas (KLAs). Students in Years 6, 7 and 8 work in core classes where they study a common curriculum together. Each class is assigned a core teacher who teaches a number of subjects to that class. In Year 6 the core teacher will teach at least 4 subjects and in Year 7 at least 3 subjects. This is augmented by specialist teachers in other subjects. Years 8 and 9 students have a variety of teachers. Year 9 is the bridge from Middle Schooling to Senior Schooling. In this year students study a variety of common subjects as well as three elective subjects. Specific needs of students are met with programs such as English as a Second Language, Learning Support and Enrichment Programs.
